Power at Work

From the ranch, to business, to the classroom.
I teach management and leadership at Valparaiso University. Before academia, I trained performance horses, led an international trade association, and founded a digital consultancy. These days I build AI learning agents that help people learn, practice, and show what they know, grounded in real course materials rather than the open internet.
In development
Each agent works from an instructor-defined pool of sources and is built around specific learning outcomes. Every conversation is recorded for review.

Practice giving difficult feedback. The agent plays a team member who pushes back, and you apply what you know about leadership in real time.

Design a reward plan for a client organization, then defend it against a skeptical manager who asks what will actually motivate people.

A conversational assessment that asks, probes, and follows up, then reports results by learning outcome with evidence from the conversation.

Where the agents go to work beyond my classroom: custom learning agents for programs, training teams, and organizations, grounded in your materials and built around your outcomes.
In my classroom
I want students to leave able to apply an idea, not just define it on a quiz. That means practice: conversations, cases, and decisions with real stakes attached.
The agents extend that practice beyond class time, and they show me where each student is actually getting stuck.
My research
I study power and influence between leaders and followers, what motivates people at work, how culture shapes work across borders, and how people adopt new technology like AI.
Always happy to talk teaching, research, or building agents for your course or organization.
